NAUGATUCK — Joseph R. Healy, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at The Village at East Farms, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Rosemary (Dunn) Healy.

Joe was born on Nov. 14, 1929 in Naugatuck, a son of the late John and Mae (Pettit) Healy. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and Fordham University, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.

He was retired from Allstate Insurance, where he was a sales agent for 54 years. As a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis Church, he served as church lector, Eucharistic minister and member of the Catholic Council and Holy Name Society.

Joe was also a member of the Naugatuck Park Department for 48 years, and served as its chairman for many years. Providing for the children of Naugatuck in countless ways was always a great source of pride for Joe.

He was also a member of the Catholic War Vets, Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of the Hibernians, Naugatuck Elks Club and was a founding member and past president of the Naugatuck Alumni Association.

Besides his wife of 61 years, he is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Lynn and her husband William, Mary Downey and her husband Gerald and Rosemary Witkoski and her husband Hank; and seven sons, Joseph and his wife Traci, John and his wife Maryanne, James and his wife Debra, Vincent and his wife Deborah, William and his wife Kelly, Timothy and his wife Karen and Michael and his wife Michelle.

He will also be missed by his 36 grandchildren and his four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, John and his twin brother, Vincent.

The funeral for Mr. Healy will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial, with full military honors, will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, on Sunday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Joseph R. Healy Scholarship Fund in care of Naugatuck Alumni Association, P.O. Box 474, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
