Julia Guarino
1926 - 2019

Waterbury, CT Julia Guarino, 92, formerly of Oakville, CT and Phoenix, AZ, joined her husband in heaven on August 19, 2019.

Julia was born in Waterbury, CT on August 28, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Vincenza “Lizzie” (Cermola) Ciarlelli. She was married to the love of her life Carmen for 66 years.

Julia is lovingly remembered by her son, Joseph Guarino and his wife, Susan of Naugatuck, CT her son, Gary Guarino of Oakville, CT and her daughter, Liz-Beth Kennard and her husband, George of Anthem, AZ. She also leaves three grandchildren, Adam Guarino, Kristin Darnell and Jennifer Kennard and her great grandson, Keegan Darnell. She also leaves her sister and best friend, Frances Dinova of Middlebury, CT; her sister in law, Florence Fitzpatrick and her husband, Bernard of Wolcott, CT and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Two sisters, Eleanor Ciarlelli and Margaret Angelino predeceased her.

The most important part of Julia’s life was the love of her children and their education. “Education comes first, then get married!” Not one to stay seated, Julia went to work after her children got older. She was an outstanding saleslady in many high fashion women’s clothing stores. One of her bosses quipped, “Julia could sell a rabbit its own fur!”

Julia had a great smile and a strong personality. She used her tireless energy in baking delicious cakes, pastries and cookies for all the family celebratory occasions.

The Guarino family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the administration and staff, especially the caretakers at Grove Manor Nursing Home in Waterbury, CT for the dedicated love and care given to Julia where she spent the last years of her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Julia’s life will be Saturday at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Family and friends will meet on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.

To Mr. Joseph Guarino and Family,
Our prayers are with you and yours.
Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by the loss of Julia. Someone as special as her will never be forgotten. She will remain in our hearts forever. Please know that in the midst of our sorrow we will find comfort in all the joyful memories shared. Her peculiar ways and words, although few, delighted us all here at Grove Manor. She will be missed.
