Prospect - Mr. John J. Sullivan, 79, died Thursday November 26, peacefully at home with his family. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Ann Bruder) Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan was born on January 7, 1930 in Waterbury, son of the late Thomas E. and Elizabeth (Sheehan) Sullivan. He was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Bugara Submarine from 1948-52.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and was involved in numerous parish activities throughout the years, most recently a driver for the St. Vincent DePaul bread route. John worked for UniRoyal of Middlebury for 35 years, retiring in 1987 at the age of 57 to pursue a home based business in chair caning and restoration. He also loved to work in the yard tending to his vegetable garden, gardening and landscaping. He was a member of the Prospect Senior Center card group, Prospect Land Trust and Safety committee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Sullivan, daughters Jacqueline Sullivan, Carol E. Corbo and husband Anthony, a son Daniel P. Sullivan and his wife Kim, grandchildren, Anthony and Michael Corbo, Alexandra Sullivan, Mashi and Olivia Sullivan, a brother Eugene Sullivan of Bethany, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
He is pre-deceased by sister Mary (Sullivan) Boucher and brothers Thomas and Joseph Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday November 30, at 9:30 AM from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Rd. (Rt 69) Prospect to St. Anthony's Church for a mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday November 29th from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
The family would like to thank Carolyn Brown and all the staff of VNA Health Care "Hope" program for the gentle and professional care given to John.
