Obituary

David P. Porto
1957 - 2019

Naugatuck, CT David P. Porto, 61, husband of Suzanne M. (Myers) Porto, died unexpectedly on January 20, 2019.

Dave was born in Waterbury, CT on November 6, 1957 a son of Geraldine (Burdette) Hankey and the late Richard Porto and had lived in Naugatuck for the past 35 years. Dave grew up in Wolcott, where he attended local schools and graduated from Wolcott High School. Dave retired from the Naugatuck Fire Department where he had worked as a dispatcher and was presently working part time at the Naugatuck Police Department and at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Dave was an incredibly kind and generous person, whose greatest joy was his family. Dave loved spoiling his children and his grandchildren; he was an avid walker and he liked to shop, especially for bargains.

In addition to his wife Sue and his mother Geraldine, Dave is survived by his son, David R. Porto and his wife, Jenna; his daughter, Nicole Deeley and her husband, Bart; his grandchildren, Olivia, Aidan, Jack, Luke, Julianne and Ryan; his brother, Michael Porto and his wife, Diane; his sisters, Deborah Porto-Velez and her husband, Jaime, Carolyn Jean Wilton and her husband, Paul and Doreen Santoli and her husband, Frank and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and Dave’s canine companion, Sophi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone is kindly asked to meet at church. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Dave’s memory, donations can be made to the Naugatuck Ecumenical Food Bank, 75 Spring Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

Sue and family, So sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We played softball against each other at Uniroyal many years ago. When I was the crossing guard at St. Francis-St. Hedwig's, we would chat every morning as Dave took his usual 'walk around the block.' How l miss those days !! May God grant him eternal peace and look after Sue and her family !!!
