Condolence: Dear Yanarella Family,
Although I don't personally know your mother I wanted to give my condolences. She sounds like a wonderful person who did a lot for the community. I remember how I felt when I lost my grandmother and I can only imagine how you are feeling now. I hope your happy memories help you through this time. I found what helped me was a scripture in Acts chapter twenty-four where God promises there will be a resurrection. Knowing there will be a time when I can see my grandmother again was really comforting. In Corinthians, death is called an enemy, so that is how God sees death. Because God feels this way, I know he will fulfill his promise. He wants to do away with death. I hope this helps.

Condolence: Mark,

I was saddened to learn of your Mom’s passing. Betty was a wonderful person and like a second mother to me growing up. I have many fond childhood memories of both her and your Dad starting way back when you lived on Hoadley St. I remember your Mom’s Aunts Nellie, Kit, and Mim( I think?) that used to come to visit your house, as wells going to their house on High St and playing out on their large front porch. I recall your parents had a gray coupe (Plymouth I believe) and then a green Pontiac sedan. I remember playing Roy Rogers and Pat Brady at the Hoadley St house (you always got to be Roy Rogers) and the time your mom served us pudding and I wouldn’t eat it because it wasn’t in the same kind of dish as yours. I also remember the sadness when you and your family moved what seemed so far away to Hickory Lane. But Hickory Lane brought new adventures as we remained close. I recall your Mom’s lettuce and tomato sandwiches, the green telephone with the cool “8888” telephone number, and riding tricycles and peddle cars around the much large cellar of your new home. I remember many times talking Baseball with your grandfather and sadly when he passed away. It was the first wake I had ever attended and I vividly remember your Mom saying kind of privately to me “you have lost your baseball buddy”. Even at that young age, I felt that it somehow gave her comfort at that moment for me to be there.

I remember your Mom and the cub scouts. Your family visits to our cottage in Maine, and when your parents ultimately bought a lot on our lake, which we all helped clear for your cottage to be built. Between growing up in Naugatuck, going off to the same college as you, and later, the many summers in Maine, Betty was almost as much as part my life as my own mother. She was always kind and generous and had a positive, optimistic outlook. She always looked for the best in people. She was like a fixture in my life. Even though she grew older in age, she never seemed to get old in my mind. I am a better person for having known her and I will miss her.

Please extend our condolences to Drew, Kean, Nikki, Christian, Mathew and the rest of the Yanarella family.
