Condolence: Our Gram nurtured each of us as we needed. You needed a remedy for a bad cough, she had a DIY before it was a channel on cable. She knitted caps for our babies( great grand children) to bring home from the Hospital. She even knitted countless caps as an outreach for many babies, other than Freer descendants, being born in Waterbury and St. Mary's Hospital. Did I mention? She loved her animals, for which thru the years were countless. Some she chose, some chose her!
But most of all, I am still in awe at the welcoming of family and friends to her home. When gram and grandpa lived on Bridge Street in a tiny apartment,I'm not compelty sure how we all fit, but I know we were there! Then to the move to Washington Street with the big Kitchen, everyone still welcomed, and coffee was ALWAYS on, with lively conversation, even debates were in progress around the small round table. She could pull fragments of left overs out of the fridge, they could feed 20 of us, and still have food to be wrapped up and put away. Yes, a modern day feeding of the masses, Mar could pull this all off, and you never saw her sweat!
Her life was not easy, but she never complained, she loved her family and put everyone before herself. She was the hand and feet of Christ. She demonstrated her Christ like ways, by how she fed us, mind, body and soul. No one was ever turned away from her table. If there was a pot of something on the stove, a stack of bowls would be at the ready, knowing full well there are always drop in''s. Mostly we met at lunch time, parking all over Washington street, sometimes parking on their front lawn, as not to annoy the neighbors, by taking up precious off street parking. Always thinking of everyone. Always available, loving, kind and with a remedy to fix what was wrong.
On Sunday, when her arrival in heaven was approaching, I'm sure there was a huge, "hey Mar Welcome Home!" But this time the table was set for her.
We love you Gram. I would like to be like you when I grow up! Until we meet again.......
