Obituary for Maureen Ellen Walden

MAUREEN E. WALDEN

Maureen Ellen Walden (born Maureen E. Daly) passed away on July 27, 2021, in Tucson, AZ, where she lived since moving there from Naugatuck in 1960.

Born in Waterbury on October 24, 1928, she was the daughter of (WWI vet and former comptroller for the Borough of Naugatuck) Charles F. Daly, and (former Borough of Naugatuck teacher) Marie Meegan, and sister of (WWI vet) Charles (Chuck) Daly and Kevin J. Daly. Maureen left a large piece of her heart in Naugatuck, cherished memories of family, friends and cousins that attended Naugatuck High School with her, and enjoyed reconnecting with old friends at class reunions in later years. She gained her business and accounting skills from Post Junior College of Commerce in Waterbury, and worked at the US Rubber Co. and as a comptometer operator for Naugatuck Glass Co.

In Tucson, she met and married Victor A. Walden, a WWII vet and originally from Chicago. She worked for Valley National Bank and then Shamrock Dairy until she retired. Maureen had many interests including interior decorating, gardening, cooking, reading, and travel. She was smart, funny, and fiercely loyal to family and friends, and derived great pleasure from those relationships. She loved well and took spectacular care of her parents until the moments they each passed away. Maureen was a steady, reliable, and loving presence to her family, left behind a lot of good memories, and is greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor A. Walden of Tucson; brothers Charles H. Daly (Marjorie Dimm) of NJ; brother Kevin J. Daly (Regina O’Toole) of Ellington, CT.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Gabriel (Paul Gabriel) of Tucson; grandson, Mark J. P. Gabriel (Annika Bastacky) of Berkeley, CA; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
