Obituary for Joao F. "John" Pinto

Naugatuck, CT Joao F. “John” Pinto, 75, husband of Beatrice (Barros) Pinto, died peacefully at VITAS Healthcare at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

John was born January 1, 1947 in Gralhos, Portugal son of the late Antonio and Gloria (Fernandes) Pinto. John lived in Naugatuck for most of his life and graduated from Naugatuck High School. Before he retired, John worked as a construction superintendent.

John was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and was a life member of the V.F.W. Crusader Post 1946. John was a longtime member of Clube Uniao Portuguesa, where he enjoyed playing soccer for the Portuguese Club team and the Portuguese Club Old Timers team. He was an avid soccer fan and Boston Red Sox fan and he enjoyed playing golf. John was a former starter and ranger at Hop Brook Golf Course.

In addition to Beatrice, his loving wife of 52 years, John is survived by his daughter and son in law, Julie and David Jannetty; his son and daughter in law, John and Kelly Pinto; his grandchildren, Jeffrey Fonseca, Branden Fonseca, Victoria Fonseca, Alexandra Jannetty, David Jannetty, Johnny Pinto and Kylie Pinto; his sister and brother in law, Leonor and Art Nunes; his brother, Lenny Pinto; several nieces and nephews and his dog, Freckles.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Members of the Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble Sunday at 6:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and to honor John’s memory, donations are requested to Clube Uniao Portuguesa, 110 Rubber Avenue, Naugatuck, CT 06770 or to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
