Michael Salvatore Falcha, Jr.
1948 -- 2020

Naugatuck, CT Michael Salvatore Falcha Jr, 72, of Naugatuck, died at Yale New Haven Hospital on December 5, 2020 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Rosemary (DeCarlo) Falcha of 43 years.

Michael was born in Waterbury, CT on September 10, 1948, son of the late Michael and Angeline (Santarsiere) Falcha. He graduated from Naugatuck High School and afterwards served in the United States Army. Michael retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster of Portland, Connecticut after 43 years of service. He held several leadership positions during his tenure at USPS. As a retirement job, he was presently working part-time at Honda of Watertown. Michael was also a Parks and Recreation commissioner for the Borough of Naugatuck for 17 years and served as vice-chairman. He was also a member of the Naugatuck Democratic Town Committee and American Legion Post 17.

One of Michael’s greatest sources of joy was being involved with the Peter J Foley Little League for 36 years. Both his sons and grandchildren played in this league. His involvement in the league included holding several positions such as, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Umpiring Chief, Player Agent, Coach, Director and Kitchen Manager. In 2010 the Naugatuck Alumni Association honored him for his devotion and passion for the league. He enjoyed providing for the children of Naugatuck in countless ways and this was always a great source of pride for him. Peter J. Foley Little League in 2019 renamed its kitchen to Mike’s Place in honor of him and his dedication to the league.

Besides Rosemary, his wife of 43 years, he is survived by sons, Michael and his wife Kelsey Falcha of Naugatuck, Brian Falcha of Naugatuck, twin brother, Salvatore Falcha of Boynton Beach, FL, sister, Linda Bragg and her husband Jeff Bragg of Middlebury, CT, his predeceased sister, Sandra Falcha, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved grandchildren,Anthony and Gianna Falcha.

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, a private service is being held. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck, CT.
To honor Michael’s memory, donations can be made to Peter J. Foley Little League, P.O. Box 452, Naugatuck, CT 06770.

I was saddened at the death of Mike, although I haven't seen him in years we were close in High School and we both graduated in 1967. Through High School we shared several classes together, and in Print Shop the two of us would find a corner and talk about jobs, cars and girls of course. When the McDonalds first opened in Waterbury we both got a job there at the age of 16. I remember he had a red Ford Fairlane GT with a black convertible top. He didn't like that car and eventually he got a Chevy Impala Super Sport. During our little adventures Sal was with us most of the time while we cruised around. I turned 72 on the 27th of December, so we were only a few months apart in age.Mike turned out to be an awesome Husband, and Father and Grandfather, as well as all the civic work he did. He served his Country just like I did. I'm so sorry for your loss Rosemary, my best wishes to you and your family, and may God Bless you with peace and comfort. David W. Dettmar

As a member of Union City Little League, I knew Mile for years. I especially remember him as one of the few who umpired girls softball. He umpired for us many times and refused to be paid. He will truly be missed. May God bless him and his family. Sincerely, Paul Kelly

I am so sad to hear of Mikes passing! I worked with him on the Democratic Party! Such a sweetheart and very well respected in the community! My condolences to all the Falcha family but especially Brian who I also knew and saw such a wonderful bond he had with his
Dad! He will definitely be missed by all in Naugatuck!
