Oakville, CT Ilona G. (Mueller) Ranaudo, 70, wife of Gregory Ranaudo, died peacefully on July 7, 2020 in the VITAS Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Ilona was born on March 21, 1950 in Germany, the daughter of the late Sigismund and Berta Mueller. Upon arriving in the United States in 1954, she lived in Torrington, and then Naugatuck with her family. After getting married, she and Greg moved to Oakville where they raised their family. Ilona attended Ray-Vogue Art School in Chicago and Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL. She was an avid gardener and a skilled seamstress with a passion for designing and making bridal gowns and accessories; some of which have become precious family heirlooms. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending time at the beach. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to Greg, her husband of 40 years, Ilona is survived by her daughters, Elisabeth Maki and her husband, Peter Maki; Krista Ranaudo and Victoria Ranaudo; her grandchildren, William, Cal and Lyle Maki and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Ilona was predeceased by her brother, Waldemar Mueller.

All services will be private due to current circumstances. A Celebration of Ilona’s Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Ilona’s memory, donations can be made to Special Olympics CT, 2666 State Street, #1, Hamden, CT 06517.

We want to send our deepest condolences and love to the Ranaudo family. Ilona was a great person with a heart of gold and will be greatly missed. I will always remember how much time and caring she put into keeping her yard and flowers so pristine. We were neighbors for 35 years or so and she was one the nicest ladies i knew. Rest in peace, Ilona. -Marc and Rose Mancini
