Antonio R. “Tony” Silva
Beloved husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather

Naugatuck, CT Antonio R. “Tony” Silva, 85, the husband of Ana Rosa (Teixeira) Silva, died peacefully on May 5, 2020 at Arden House in Hamden due to complications from the Covid 19 virus.

Tony was born on September 13, 1934 in Estarreja, Portugal son of the late Manuel da Silva and Margarida Rodrigues da Silva. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1973 and started a new life in Naugatuck CT, with the help of his brother in law, Antonio Teixeira and his wife, Amelia. One of his proudest moments was when he became a US citizen, and he wasn’t shy to let you know it. Tony retired in 2001 after working at Allegheny Ludlum Corp. for 10 years and prior to that at New England Die for 18 years.

Tony had a great work ethic, which he instilled in his sons. He was a huge fan of FC Porto football (soccer) team, a gifted and avid fisherman, gardener, skilled handyman and mason. He was a truly fearless man. He wouldn’t hesitate to climb a 50 foot pine tree in order to cut it down, section by section, or climb on his roof to rebuild the chimney. He was a very proud but humble man, always willing to lend a hand to whoever asked for help, especially his family, and never asked for anything in return. He will be terribly missed by his family and all that were lucky enough to know him.

In addition to Ana Rosa, his wife of 63 years, Tony is survived by his sons, Antonio E. Silva and Vasco A. Silva and his wife, Michelle; his grandchildren, Adam Silva, Ashley Silva, Benjamin Silva and his fiancé, Britnee Patruno and Samantha Silva and her fiancé, Rey Torres; his great-grandchildren, Paityn and Camron; his brother in law, Antonio Teixeira and his wife, Amelia; his nephews, Antonio Teixeira, Jr. and his wife, Laura and Jose Teixeira and also family in Portugal. Tony was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Renkun, Jr and his nephew, Victor Teixeira.

Services will be private and a memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Antonio’s memory, donations can be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.

The bond these two had! Cam loves Vovo so much! It didn’t matter who was around these two were always together and paid no mind to anyone around them! As soon as grandpa would see cam he would get the biggest smile on his face and in excitement he would say, “my Cammy boy!” I will forever keep the memories of you alive with cam! You will never be forgotten!
