Obituary for Donald Joseph Starziski

Beacon Falls, CT Donald Joseph Starziski, 81, entered into eternal rest on November 30, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, with his friends and family at his bedside.

Don was born on September 11, 1936 in Naugatuck, a son of the late Joseph and Augusta (Rader) Starziski. Don worked as a driver and a mechanic for the State of Connecticut, D.O.T. for 38 years prior to his retirement. In his retirement, Don enjoyed refurbishing and finishing old cars, especially Fords. Don was happiest under the hood of a car, plowing snow, cutting a lawn, or helping a neighbor. Don was a top notch bowler, winning trophies for his many perfect 300 games. He loved spending time with family at family gatherings and never missed a party.

Don leaves behind his brother, Charles Starziski and his wife Rita; his sister, Sandra Mezzo; his nephews, Daniel Starziski, Leonard Starziski, Thomas Starziski and his wife Nancy, William Starziski and his wife Amy, and Robert Mezzo and his wife Eileen; his nieces, Allison Hurley Starziski, and Janice Zurlo and her husband Michael; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 3 great great nephews.

The family would like to thank his neighbors of many years, especially his best buddies “Mr. Ernie” and “Marty” and good friends Don and Bernice Hayes; his care givers, Eileen, Mark, Maria and especially Nana Amaniompong, Rhonda Drake, Hilda from Hospice and his nurses, Heidi and Jessica for their tireless care of Donald. Thank you to the staff at Companions and Homemakers, VITAS and the Leever Cancer Center.

Funeral Services are private. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
