Wolcott, CT Mrs. Assunta Gioielli, 85, the widow of Gaetano Gioielli, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Wolcott View Manor.
She was born on August 20, 1932 in Santa Maria, Capua Vetere, Italy a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Palmieri) Orciso.
Assunta came to Waterbury in 1965 to reunite with her father, brother, and her youngest sister Rita. In 1968 while visiting back in Italy she met and married Gaetano and together they started a business and a family. She lived in Waterbury most of her life before moving to Naugatuck in 1995. She will always be remembered for the great meals she cooked and her quick wit.
She is survived by her daughter, Annamaria Clark and her husband, Lawrence of Plant City, FL; son, Lorenzo Gioielli and his wife, Kathy of Wolcott, two sisters, Carmella Grosso of Italy and Rita DiCaprio and her husband, Alessandro of Terryville; four grandsons, Joseph, Robert, Nicholas, and Joshua as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Giovanina Mauro and her brother, Alessandro Orciso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick Church, 50 Charles Street, Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
