Obituary for Deborah MacAulay (Fletcher)

Naugatuck- Deborah MacAulay (née Fletcher), 67, wife of Dennis MacAulay, passed away on Thursday, October 19th, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Debbie was born in East Berkshire, VT on December 6, 1949 to Erwin and Glenna Fletcher and enjoyed a childhood spent in the company of her large and loving family. She moved to Danbury, CT in 1969. She met her future husband Dennis at Financial Printing Company in 1970 and they were married October 5, 1979.

Debbie was a dedicated employee of the Waterbury Republican American for 28 years, but found true joy and wonderful friends working at the Amity Garden Center in her later years. She had a lifelong love of gardening, walking in nature and caring for animals. She volunteered fostering rescue dogs with Spotty Dog Rescue, where she found purpose and companionship. She was a loving, empathetic and independent woman who was equally comfortable in the garden as she was with a power tool in hand. She taught her daughters and grand-daughters strength and compassion and was incredibly proud of their accomplishments. She enriched the lives of all who knew her and will be forever missed.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 38yrs Dennis; her three daughters Jennifer MacAulay-Sagendorf, Heather MacAulay and Kathleen MacAulay; her stepson Kevin MacAulay; her two grand-daughters Brynn and Lucy and her grandson Donald. Debbie also leaves behind her brothers Gary, Randy and Dale Fletcher; her sisters Alice Workman and Judy Williams; and her sisters-in-law Gwen, Sandy and Shirley Fletcher and Kay Pannozza. She is predeceased by her parents Erwin and Glenna Fletcher, her brothers Erwin, Richard and Norman Fletcher and her dear sister Diane Bryce.

The family will be planning a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Debbie’s memory to Spotty Dog Rescue (spottydogrescue.org) or the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
