Robert “Bob” V. Shove
Loved being around family and avid sports fan

Waterbury, CT Robert “Bob” V. Shove, 95, husband of the late Anna May (Cipriano) Shove, passed away on Sept. 21, 2017 at Waterbury Gardens surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on Jan. 6, 1922 in Waterbury, CT a son of the late George and Clara (Thompson) Shove. He attended Saints Peter and Paul School and graduated from Wilby High School. In 1942 Bob joined the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of Corporal. He served overseas in the 716th tank battalion as a gunner. Bob and his beloved wife Anna May were married September 20, 1958. They had three children. When he returned home Bob worked for Scovill Manufacturing Co. as a foreman. Bob studied Metalurgy and became a Metallurgist for Scovills, retiring from Century Brass-New Milford in 1985. Bob and his wife retired to Deltona Florida in 1986, enjoying a lovely life with friends.


Bob loved sports and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, New England Patriots, UCONN Womens Basketball, and golf. Bob was a member of many golf courses in the Connecticut area, achieving near pro-status. Bob was an excellent bowler and baseball player. In the early 1940’s before entering the war, Bob enjoyed traveling to New York City to listen to the big bands, especially Glen Miller and Artie Shaw. Bob enjoyed good food and socializing, especially going out to Sunday morning breakfast. Bob enjoyed spending time with his grand children and great grand-children often accompanying his grand-son in law John on morning school drop offs. Bob and John enjoyed a special relationship, sharing coffee and breakfast together many times a week. Bob was cared for greatly by his grand-son in law’s parents Tom and Eleanore who cooked meals for him which made him the envy of his friends.

Bob was very active and independent right up until his passing. Bob enjoyed long brisk walks, often walking 5 miles a day. He knew the key to life was staying active and maintaining relationships with long time friends and all of his family. He loved to travel and enjoyed spending summers at the family’s cottage in Clinton. He lived his life to the fullest!

Bob is survived by his children, Robert Shove and his fiance Lori Shaker, and Pamela Shove and her husband Richard Colangelo, and his son in law Kevin McDermott; his grandchildren, Kristin”Kissy” Callahan and her husband Jonathan, Amber Pappadia and her husband John, Richard Colangelo, Brittany Colangelo, and Savannah Shove; his great grandchildren, Nicholas, Aidan, Jonathan, and Cristian, Bob’s nephew’s Ralphie Cross, Ralph Shove, Ken Shove, and Bob Shove. Bob now goes to join his parents, wife Anna May, 3 brothers Bill, Willard, Ralph, and 1 sister Mary, and beloved daughter Ann Shove-McDermott.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 from 5 to 7pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, CT.
