Annie Laurie  Beadle (Laurie)
WOLCOTT- Annie Laure Beadle, 86, passed away January 30, 2017, in Wolcott at the Wolcott View Manor nursing home after a long illness. She was born Betty Laurie in Concord, New Hampshire, on September 13, 1930, daughter of William Alan Laurie and Mary Morey Laurie.
A graduate of Concord N.H. high school, she went on to further studies at the University of New Hampshire, Parsons School of Design in New York City and The University of California in San Diego.
Annie was crowned Miss New Hampshire in 1950 – 1951 and represented the state in the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City. She was an accomplished violinist who briefly taught violin students in Concord, New Hampshire. Annie was also an artist and a prize-winning member of the Connecticut Pastel Society. She was a professional photographer and showed her work in galleries from coast to coast.
Annie’s career was very diverse. She was an account executive for Rich Advertising in Buffalo, New York, writing commercials for McDonald’s among others. She was very fashionable and, as such, had a lengthy career working in numerous high-end retail stores. In addition, she was Service Director for the American Cancer Society, Waterbury Unit. Annie was also a devout animal lover and a member of the ASPCA and PETA.
Mrs. Beadle was a member of the Wolcott Congregational Church. She is survived by her loving son, Robert Jaffy, and his wife, Alice, along with their two children, Rachel and Benjamin, with whom she took the greatest joy. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Richard Wallace Beadle.
The family would like to pay special thanks to Sister Marie Burke, Charlie Book, and Joanne Pronovost, loving and caring friends during Annie’s lifetime. We would also like to thank the kind caregivers at Wolcott View Manor.
Funeral services will be private and there will be no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
