“A Man of all trades”

Naugatuck, CT Hermann J. Kohl, Sr., 84, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Southington Care Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Hermann was born on April 18, 1934 in Leinefelde, Germany, son of the late Karl and Ida Kohl.
Hermann immigrated to America when he was 18 years old, where he married the love of his life, Elisabeth, his wife of 62 years. He worked for Uniroyal Footwear and Uniroyal Chemical until his retirement. Hermann was an avid gardener and spent most of his days outdoors.

Besides his devoted wife, Elisabeth, he leaves five children, a son, Herman Kohl, Jr. and his long-time companion, Kathleen Crabtree of Naugatuck; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Godfrey Caleb of Southington; a daughter, Marianne and her husband, Robert Bartley of Southington; a son, Karl Kohl of Florida; and a daughter, Suzanne Kohl of Naugatuck; a brother, Karl-Heinz Kohl of Dachau, Germany and several cousins. Hermann leaves his 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Hermann was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Alan Eldridge and his great grandson, Hunter Richard Fiske.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Saturday from 9:00-10:00am at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers, please “plant a tree” in Hermann’s honor so that his memory will live on at www.alivingtribute.org.
