Naugatuck-Mattie (Taylor) Verceski, 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Beacon Brook Healthcare. She was the wife of the late Charles A. Verceski.

Mrs. Verceski was born on March 3, 1917 in Sharon, CT, a daughter of the late Arthur Taylor and Grace (Vosburgh, Taylor) Lewis. She was retired from Uniroyal Inc., where she worked for many years.

She is survived by her three daughters, Joan Ciasullo and her husband Ronald of Waterbury, Carol Butkevich and her husband Edward of Winsted, and Sue Schmelcke of Naugatuck. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren and her four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her three sisters, Jean Cross, Irene Zuranski, and her twin sister, Harriett Dechane, one brother, Arthur Taylor, as well as her son in law, the late William Schmelcke.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69., Prospect. Burial will follow in Pines Bridge Cemetery in Beacon Falls.

The family would like to give special thanks to Beacon Brook Health Center and Hospice for the special care they gave Mattie during this difficult time.
